Physical gender differences in kindergarten age

Gender Roles-Interviews with Kids (September 2018).

Gender identity in toddlers

Children start at the age of 18 months, self as a boy or To understand girls. But only at the age of two to six years, they solidarize with other children of their sex and begin to show gender-specific games and behavior. Most social scientists agree that a combination of genetics and education shapes gendered behavior.

Physical Growth

Between the two major stages of growth in infancy and puberty, girls and boys grow at the same slow but steady rate. There are no discernible differences until the end of elementary school. Then girls start to grow faster. Boys usually catch up with this within a few years and overtake the girls.

Motor Abilities

The coarse-motor abilities (running, jumping, balancing) develop a bit faster in boys, but girls have the edge in terms of their fine-motor skills, such as holding a pen or writing , That's why girls often have an interest in arts and crafts before boys. As brain studies show, boys are also physically more aggressive and impulsive. They feel stronger feelings of happiness when taking risks. This does not mean that girls can not be active and willing to take risks, only boys on average are more likely.

Linguistic Skills in Boys and Girls

Almost always, girls are more likely to start talking. You can also better interpret non-verbal signals, such as the tone or facial expression. This allows them to connect emotions and language sooner, making them better communicators. Boys also have a smaller vocabulary for a long time.

This is where your Son can work: When reading aloud, point out the feelings of the characters so that your son can better understand the feelings of others.

Toilet training: girls are faster

Girls are on average able to potty earlier than boys. It is still unexplored whether this is due to physical or educational differences (usually it is the mother who is responsible for it, and perhaps little girls can identify with it more quickly). Also, bedwetting is more of a boy problem than a girl problem.
